Well, I think rest is important for everyone, not just marginalized groups; this is a global message for an entire culture that is brainwashed, abused, and exploited by nonstop labor. People are really disconnected from their own bodies and spirits, so this social-justice-based work is based on community care. I’m a Black woman, and the Official georgia Bulldogs Stetson Bennett Call Me Shirt Additionally,I will love this work that I’ve studied is mostly Black scholarship; my research comes from a lens of me looking at my ancestors, looking at African American history, looking at the history of slavery in this culture. There is a larger idea of rest being liberation and part of a justice movement, and that idea is spreading to whoever needs it. I think people think it’s only for Black people, or that it’s just about napping. This is about more than that, and that’s why I’m so glad people will have the book, so they can begin to turn the pages and get into the ideas. This is a paradigm shift; it’s an ethos that looks at slowing down and pushing back against a system that says our word is connected to how much we’ve done. The first tenant of that ministry is that rest is a form of resistance, because it pushes back and it disrupts capitalism and white supremacy. I only speak from the lens of Black liberation because I believe that Blackness is a balm for all of humanity, and I believe that no one will be free until we’re all free. Black people, Indigenous people, the people who capitalism culture has abused and commodified to build its wealth; it comes out of that very human lens.
